This year’s contest also served to confirm little Ryan Fan Yen’s mastery of the language as the third former from the Royal College Port-Louis wins for the third time in a row. The finals were held on 30th May 2017.
 
The Spelling Bee competition was founded in the United States in 2006 and tests participants’ mastery of the English language, the second most wildly spoken language in the world and the official language of some 50 counties, including Mauritius. Raoul Gufflet, Deputy Chief Executive of MCB Ltd, says that the MCB “is proud to renew its support for this competition”, adding that language is all the more important in the digital age where “presentations, videos and posts, whether professional or personal, are shared on social media. “
