National Spelling Bee Competition : knowledge of English language rewarded
The finals of the 18th edition of the National Spelling Bee Competition took place on Monday, 3rd June at MCB St. Jean. The purpose of this competition is to reward the develop correct English usage through spelling of targeted words and is open to students from Grade 7 to Grade 10. The competition is organized each year by the English Speaking Union with the support of MCB Group.
Approximately 550 students from 145 colleges participated in the competition this year. The finals saw the participation of some 48 students from 45 colleges in Mauritius.
The winners of the 2019 edition are:
Grade 7: Aditya Bumma- Ebène SSS Boys
Grade 8: Emily Permal - Le Bocage International School
Grade 9: Sharena Veeramunden - Queen Elizabeth College
Grade 10: Rhea Hurree - Ebène SSS Girls
The winners won a cash prize of Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, as well as a trophy and other gifts offered by the MCB. The finals of the competition in Rodrigues will be held on the 18th June.
For the fourth year in a row, the competition was held at MCB St. Jean. MCB's support for the National Spelling Bee Competition remains in line with the Group's policy to promote education.
