Matisse soon in Mauritius!

As part of the bicentenary of the famous French poet Charles Baudelaire, the Blue Penny Museum will be holding the Matisse exhibition, a first in this part of the world. French painter Matisse and Charles Baudelaire have had a very close connection, as Matisse decided to illustrate Baudelaire’s masterpiece “Les Fleurs du Mal”.

Matisse was heavily influenced by art from other cultures. Having seen several exhibitions of Asian art, and having traveled to North Africa, he incorporated some of the decorative qualities of Islamic art, the angularity of African sculpture, and the flatness of Japanese prints into his own style.

The exhibition will open to the public on 15 April and will last until 11th June. Entrance will be free.
