Didier Harel replaces Gérard Hardy as Chairman

Mr. Gérard Hardy has retired today as Non-Executive Director and Chairperson of MCB Group. At its meeting held today, the Board of Directors appointed Mr M G Didier Harel as Chairperson of MCBG in replacement of Mr. Hardy.

Appointed to the Board of The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (“the Bank”) as Vice-President in 2002, Mr Hardy held office as President of the Bank from 2004 to 2014, as from when he chaired the Board of MCBG following the restructuring of the Group.

Mr. Didier Harel, 64 years old, was elected as Director of MCB Group at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders held on 17th November 2015.

Mr Harel holds an MBA (with Distinction) at INSEAD in Fontainebleau and a BSc. Eng. (First Class Honours) in Chemical Engineering & Chemical and Chemical Technology at Imperial College of Science and Technology (City and Guilds College) in London. He has a track record of over forty years in the downstream sector of the oil industry, working for the EXXON and TOTAL Groups. He started his career with Esso in Mauritius in 1974 and was appointed as Managing Director of Esso Reunion in 1982. He joined TOTAL Group in 1988 where he was entrusted several international assignments, as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of major subsidiaries in Europe and Southern Africa.
