The boys of Collège de la Confiance have won the fourth season of Deba Klima. Having already claimed the title last year, the institution overcame its opponent, Dr. James Burty David SSS, in an epic final. The competition, which focuses on the major climate and environmental challenges facing Mauritius and the region, was hosted by La Nikita and broadcast every Saturday from 9 May to 27 June on MBC 1 and MBC Sat. Deba Klima, conducted exclusively in Mauritian Creole, is a joint initiative of MCB and the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, produced in collaboration with Dr. François Gemenne, a specialist in environmental geopolitics and migration.

Artificial Intelligence at the heart of the debate

Artificial Intelligence was a central focus of the final debate. The two finalist schools competed on the theme: Overall, artificial intelligence (AI) will be of great help in the fight against climate change.Students from Collège de la Confiance adopted a critical stance, highlighting the ethical, environmental, and social risks associated with AI. In contrast, Dr. James Burty David SSS argued in favour of the technology, emphasising its potential for innovation, efficiency, and tackling complex challenges, particularly in the climate field. The lively debates showcased the students’ ability to conduct research, reference their sources, and present arguments in clear, precise, and engaging language.
