MCB Microfinance: Eight years of sustained micro-enterprise engagement
MCB Microfinance is proud to celebrate its eight years of existence, marked by its unwavering support for micro-enterprises in Mauritius and Rodrigues. Since its inception, MCB Microfinance has committed to promoting financial inclusion and encouraging small-scale entrepreneurship.
Eight years of growth and impact
MCB Microfinance has supported more than 3,718 clients during these eight years, a significant achievement that testifies to its essential role in the local socio-economic development. MCB Microfinance’s CEO, Aurélie Leclézio, states: "We are very proud to have been able to inject more Rs. 1.5 billion in the microenterprises sector in Mauritius, including Rodrigues. This supported individual entrepreneurs and contributed to the country's overall economic development."
The importance of financing
The issue of financing microenterprises is crucial for economic growth, job creation, and the very survival of this type of enterprise. To support them, MCB Microfinance offers three types of unsecured loans at a rate of 16% per year, adapted to the varied needs of entrepreneurs, namely, the Working Capital Loan, a loan from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 800,000, repayable throughout 6 to 18 months, the Investment Loan, from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 800,000, repayable throughout 12 to 60 months and the Start-Up Loan, from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 200,000, repayable throughout 6 to 36 months.
Nearly 52% of the loans granted are investment loans, reflecting entrepreneurs' confidence in the sustainability of their investments. Since the introduction of start-up loans in October 2020, 138 loans have been granted. This represents an amount of Rs. 13.7 million disbursed for this purpose by MCB Microfinance.
Increased presence in Rodrigues
Since its establishment in Rodrigues in March 2017, MCB Microfinance has disbursed 702 loans for Rs. 13.7 million. "Our presence in Rodrigues demonstrates our commitment to supporting micro-entrepreneurs in all regions of the country. We are pleased that our customers in Rodrigues benefit fully from our services and actively contribute to the local economy," adds Aurélie Leclézio.
