Smilla Tarning Soenderby claims the inaugural MCB Ladies Classic title
After a week of sensational scoring it was only appropriate that Denmark’s Smilla Tarning Soenderby confirmed victory in the first edition of the MCB Ladies Classic – Mauritius with a superb par breaker on the final hole.
She needed it, too, because her playing partner, the South African Casandra Alexander, had made an eagle-3 to tie the 13-under-par clubhouse lead of Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall.
But, having found the green of the par-5 18th hole in two shots, Soenderby stood up to the pressure, converting her birdie-4 to triumph on 14-under 202.
The final round was a tale of the par-5s for the Dane on the Legends Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage. On the front nine she made a bogey and an eagle while, on the back nine, she made no mistakes with two birdies.
The win was the 25-year-old’s second on the Ladies European Tour and afterwards she was delighted, not least because her mum caddied for her in the final round.
“It feels unbelievable,” she said. “It is the most special thing to experience together and to do it in Mauritius, such an amazing place, makes me very grateful.”
The result was bittersweet for Alexander who has been brilliant in 2026, but this was her fifth second place finish across all tours. The win remains elusive.
Italy’s Anna Zanusso carded the low round of the week, a scintillating bogey-free 9-under 63 that earned her solo fourth.
The LET’s first tournament in Mauritius has been a triumph and the players are hoping it is not their last visit.
