Thomas Bjørn wins 2022 MCB Tour Championship Mauritius
Thomas Bjørn’s victory in the 2022 MCB Tour Championship Mauritius on the Legend Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage was further proof that the tournament and the course always identify the finest golfer in the field.
Bjørn carded a classy final round of 67 on the Legend Course to complete a tournament total of 20-under 196, good enough for a dominant seven-shot victory.
The Dane, who was the winning captain at the 2018 Ryder Cup, joins a long list of elite-level previous winners that includes British Open champion Tom Lehman, Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie and multiple PGA Tour winner David Frost.
His victory also maintained a strong recent trend. Both 2017 winner Thaworn Wiratchant and 2018 champion Clark Dennis won by the margin of eight strokes, Jarmo Sandelin was three clear in 2019, and now Bjørn has added his own stamp of authority over the field.

After completing the win, Bjørn admitted that it had been a tricky day despite his four-shot advantage after 36 holes. “A big lead is a weird one because you don’t know what to expect,” he said. In fact, the last two times he had led by four with 18 holes to play he had lost.
How had he avoided an unpleasant hat-trick? He explained: “I decided to take aim at a score and thought that if someone beat it fair enough. That target was 20-under, so I’m very happy. I avoided mistakes, avoided bogeys and avoided giving the chasers encouragement.”
Bjørn was also happy with his game plan all week. “I had very few expectations coming in here, but the golf course fitted my eye,” he said. “I also took advantage of the par-5s. I played them very well and could play steady on the other holes.”

Jean Michel Ng Tseung, Chief Executive Designate - MCB Group Ltd, and Thomas Bjørn, winner of the MCB Tour Championship Mauritius 2022.
