Sustainability Report 2026 : MCB’s sustainable finance delivers real impact
What if sustainability could be measured in mushrooms, solar panels and children’s smiles? MCB Group has published its Sustainability Report 2026, opening it to the ocean through artworks by Mauritian and regional artists. Beyond the numbers, it tells the story of a year of actions you can see, touch, and sometimes even taste.
Sustainable finance in action
Launched in 2023, the first Rs 10 billion facility dedicated to sustainable finance was fully utilised. Having supported more than 200 projects, it has now been increased to Rs 25 billion. In practical terms, it enabled the financing of 1,809 electric and hybrid vehicles, the installation of 21.5 MW of solar capacity, including 7 MWp on the rooftops of the Mauritius Freeport in Mer Rouge, support for a commercial-scale fresh mushroom production project in Mauritius aimed at reducing imports, and the launch of a recycling facility capable of processing up to 100 tonnes of glass per year.
“The past year reinforced a conviction that sits at the heart of our strategy: our long-term success will depend on how decisively we anticipate change, how effectively we act as one Group and how consistently we remain true to our purpose,” says Jean Michel Ng Tseung, Chief Executive, MCB Group.
People first
Behind the figures are real people. More than Rs 130 million was invested in over 60 organisations, benefiting more than 90,000 people. Employees also continued to make a difference: 454 staff members dedicated time through the Group’s social leave programme, compared with 357 the previous year.
The Blue Penny Museum, founded by MCB in 2001, welcomed 28,600 visitors. It remains the only place in the world where visitors can view the two original, unused 1847 Blue Penny and Red Penny stamps side by side. The museum also hosted Artizan Lamer, an exhibition dedicated to artisanal fishers that engaged more than 200 young people through workshops, and digitised 98% of its collection. Admission was free on Saturdays throughout June 2026.
